Dieting Can Make You Fat!

By Aram Ovsepian Some people say that diet is the dirtiest word in the dictionary. Maybe. And for lots of people, it is one of the most feared! But most important - for all of us the word diet is the most misused and abused word in the language. If youve ever tried one of the most popular diets of the week like the Atkins Diet, or the South Beach Diet, or NutriSystem and Jenny Craig, or the Grapefruit Diet, or the low fat/high protein diet or the low protein/high fat diet or the all-pizza-all-day diet (hey - its out there), then you know just what I mean diets dont work! Any diet program that you decide to follow until you reach your goal is destined to fail. Any change in your eating habits that you undertake, knowing from the start that its only temporary, is a game. And any diet that totally eliminates one nutrient in favor of another, is just playing havoc with your health. Actually, the only diet that will do exactly what it says it will do is the Yo-yo Diet. Youre up, youre down; youre high, youre low; youre on, youre off; youre wound up tight, youre bottomed outand then it starts all over again. OK, youre still not sure that all diets dont work? And you dont really see how diets can make you fat? Lets take a look. Remember how you felt on your last diet? Deprived. Depressed. Getting more and more desperate. You watched every ounce and pound, counting the days til you could stopand eat again. Finally, you lost the 8 pounds, or 10 pounds or 20. You were so glad it was over. And so proud. Now this calls for a celebration, yea? And whats a celebration without an extra large pizza! Or a double cheese-burger with a shake and fries! Just this once. Well, maybe a little pasta tomorrow night, too. So how long did it take for the euphoria to turn into anesthesia? You felt no pain as you packed on the pounds again, with a little extra. Then you started feeling the pain again. And the disillusionment and the depression as you loosened your belt and began looking for your next diet. Enough already! Perhaps its time to look at the situation from another perspective, the whole picture. No one goes to bed one night and wakes up the next morning 10 pounds heavier. It was a long term process. It involved more sitting and less walking, more TV and less exercise, more pasta, pizza and processed or fast foods and less natural nutrition. So what can you do to reverse it? First, you can accept that a new diet wont fix it and then you can learn how a shift in your eating lifestyle will. Eating lifestylesomething thats yours forever. What would you say if I told you that there is a simple and natural way of eating designed specifically for you? Foods that are perfect for your body, your needs, your genetics, your total health. What if I say that you will never have to count calories again, that some of you might need more good fats to help heal your body and that you are to avoid so called “healthy foods” that are processed and labeled “no sugar,” low fat or light? And what if I also say that you will have more energy, better health, increased mental clarity, less food cravings and attain your ideal weight in less time and with less stress than on any fad diet? Now that would be interesting, wouldnt it? Well, I am saying it. And in the next article, Ill tell you how its done. Please come back and read, You Are What Your Grandmother Eats! Youll never think of Grandma the same. Aram Ovsepian is a Nutrition and Lifestyle Coach, Corrective Exercise Specialist & certified Personal Trainer. How to Find a Teaching Job

By Laura Adams Have you just completed your teaching degree and are looking to start your career? Are you a seasoned teacher who is looking for an exciting new challenge? Or are you a professional outside of the education industry who is looking to make a career switch to a teaching position? Finding a new teaching opportunity can be a daunting process, especially since seasoned teachers with tenure or long-standing success at a school are typically automatically re-invited to teach each school year. The result is that available teaching positions may be limited, and the competition for these positions fierce. A big part of the job search process is knowing where to look for teaching positions. The following tips and tricks are designed to take some of the headache out of your search, by giving you some guidelines on steps you can take to land your ideal teaching opportunity. Visit the Human Resources and/or recruiting departments of local school systems and universities to inquire about available positions. If there are no current vacancies, ask if you can submit your resume to remain on file should future openings match what you are seeking. Keep in mind that schools do the bulk of their hiring several months before the new school year starts. Accept a substitute teaching position at the school(s) at which you are focusing your job search. This will not only allow you to network at the school by putting in the midst of fellow teachers and administrators, but also allow you to meet some of the students you may be teaching. It is not unusual for substitute teachers who have made a strong bond with the students to be offered a full-time position when an opening comes up. Take time to get to know and develop a relationship with the administrators at the school(s) you are interested in. Your likelihood of landing an interview (leading to a position) as a known commodity is higher than it is for a nameless teacher who on one has met. Colleges and universities that offer teaching degrees often have a database of available positions in the schools Career Center. Career Center advisors are also excellent sources of information on how to network in the industry and get your foot in the door. Many school limit Career Center resource access to current students or alumni, though, so you may be limited to your alma matar. Network, network, network! Let friends, family, and casual acquaintances know that you are on the market for a new position. Since most companies are much more willing to interview (and potentially hire) candidates who have already been vouched for, its important to get the word out that you are available and seeking a new opportunity. Dont forgot to investigate often-overlooked teaching avenues such as: o Tutoring either one-on-one student tutoring or tutoring through an established company such as the Sylvan Learning Center o Corporate trainers o Adjunct faculty positions o Universities and colleges seeking teachers for teaching degree programs o Mentorship / Shadowing programs Dont be adverse to accepting a contract or training position. This are often a great way to get you foot in the door in the teaching profession. It also gives you a chance to evaluate a school to ensure it is a match before fully committing yourself to a long-term full-time position. Use the internet. Searching for teacher, educator, professor or teaching on major job boards will unearth hundreds of available openings just be aware that competition for these positions is stiff since hundreds of other teachers are looking at and applying for the exact same jobs. Searching teaching-specific job boards for available opportunities is a great way to target only those jobs that require your degree and background. There are a number of excellent sites that speacialize in teachers jobs. You can find details at my site below. Laura Adams is a qualified careers advisor with 11 years experience. Why Must Our Children Lose Their Innocence?

By Arnold Nadler Has the world turned into such a terrible place for our children to have a decent childhood? Do we need to protect our kids from harm more than any previous generation before? Were there not as many crazy bad people around when we grew up, pollution, cigarettes, drugs, wars, diseases, and other social situations then too? If we look back in history, every generation had its own trials and tribulations to deal with. Unfortunately for our grandparents as youngsters they experienced wars, famine, personal losses, and many families were forced to leave the countries they were born in, and everything they were familiar with. Maybe that is why they just wanted to bring their own children up, our parents, with fond childhood memories, no matter what curves life threw at them. Even thought the world might have changed from when our parents grew up, they tried to bring us up with the same philosophies their folks did. Let kids be kids, and enjoy their childhood. They will have their whole life to worry and try to change the world. Have we ourselves forgotten how much fun it was just being a kid? Do we not remember playing in the woods, making forts, rough housing, going to the local park to see how high we could go on the swings, riding our bikes around pretending they were like cars, playing pick up sports with our buddies, or just taking a walk to the local corner store for a popsicle on a warm summer? We managed to accomplish and survive all these activities without parental supervision. Were these types of positive childhood experiences the catalysts in allowing us to become well adjusted human beings? Through these unsupervised activities we used our imaginations, start learning social skills, and were given the chance to be independent and self reliant? Is it also possible that back in those days we had more of structured family life when it came to work hours, parental roles, religion, and belief in country? Did we feel more secure because of these things as well? Should our kids not be given the same opportunities to simply embrace life as a child? Do we really think it is necessary to let them know at such young ages how bad our environment is doing, or about things like West Nile Virus? Is it fair to make them responsible to deal with problems they did not create, should it not be our job as parents to make sure the world is a much better place for our children to live in? Final thought In this article I have posed a lot of the questions, to be perfectly honest I do not have the answers. Just like most of you, I want to protect my child from any type of harm, and make him aware of our human condition. Maybe I am feeling a tad guilty because in taking away his innocence, and making him face reality too early. Will he rebel as a teenager because he was not given enough freedom to develop as a child? Will he brand himself skull and bone tattoo, feel there is no future for anyone left in this world, and become depressed? If this is what it means to keep him safe, so be it!!! The one positive thing we as parents can all find comfort in, is regardless which generation people our born in, they will always have something that they believe their parents might have done better during their youth!!! Lip Piercings

By Josh Riverside Many people express themselves through the type of clothing they wear, while others do so through the kind of haircut they wear. Another way to express your individuality is through body piercing. Getting certain parts of your body pierced entails more responsibility, especially right after you get the piercing. This is especially true for some of the most sensitive areas where piercing is done, including the lips. Taking care of a piercing is like taking care of a little wound that need to be given adequate time to heal. For lip piercing, this is true because the lips are some of the most sensitive parts of the body and it takes 2 to 3 months for lip piercing to heal, when you get them, you should take the necessary steps to ensure that it heals properly. One of these includes not taking out the jewelry during the healing period, which can cause the piercing to close. You should also avoid applying ointments, makeup, and shaving cream on the piercing. This is because apart from keeping oxygen out of the piercing, which hastens the healing process, using these on lip piercing keeps the piercing moist, which also slows down the healing process. There are several steps that you should take in caring for lip piercing. One of these includes washing your hands before touching the area of the piercing because the hands carry a lot of bacteria. It would also be a good idea to clean the piercing twice a day but not more than that, as overcleaning may also slow down the healing process because of over exposure to moisture. If you avoid doing the things that could cause more problems and doing things that could effectively hasten the healing of the lip piercing. Planting and Caring for Flower Bulbs

By Michael McGroarty There is nothing quite as welcome as those beautiful spring flowers that seem to emerge from nowhere to welcome the arrival of spring. Bulb type flowers are really unique plants, because they spend most of their days resting quietly beneath the surface of the soil. Then right on schedule, up they come, full of bloom and vigor, and then almost as fast as they came, they go. Except for the green leafy part of the plant that tends to linger longer than we would like them to. Despite their short bloom time and unattractive foliage after the blooms are gone, they are still a wonderful addition to any landscape. But how should you care for them? First lets talk about how to use them in your landscape. Flowers of all kinds are best when planted in groupings. Many people buy 25 or 50 bulbs and just go around the yard planting helter skelter. Thats fine if thats what you want, but when planted that way they tend to blend in with the landscape and really dont show up well at all. When you plant them in large groups they are a breathtaking showpiece. In the early spring start thinking about where you would like to create a bed for flower bulbs. Prepare the bed by raising it with good rich topsoil, and if at all possible add some well composted cow manure. Do this in the spring while you are in the gardening mood; you may not be in the fall. Over the summer fill the bed with annual flowers to keep the weeds down, and to pretty up your yard for the summer. Come fall all you have to do is pull out the annuals and plant your bulbs to the depth recommended on the package. If you think you could have a problem with squirrels digging up the bulbs and eating them, you can also wrap the bulbs in steel wool, leaving just the tip of the bulb exposed so it can grow out of the little wire cage youve created. Or you can just plant the bulbs and then cover the bed with chicken wire or plastic fencing until the bulbs start to grow in the spring. When the bulbs come up in the spring and start blooming, you should clip off the blooms as they start to wither. This keeps the bulb from producing seeds, which requires a lot of energy, and you want the bulb to use all of its available energy to store food in preparation for the bulbs resting period. Once the bulbs are completely done blooming you dont want to cut off the tops until they are withered and die back. The million dollar question is how to treat the tops until that happens. Many people bend them over and slip a rubber band over them, or in the case of bulbs like Daffodils tie them with one of the long leaves. This seems to work because it is a very common practice among many experienced gardeners. However, Mike is about to rain on the parade. I strongly disagree with this theory because back about 6th grade we learned about photosynthesis in science class. To recap what we learned, and without going into the boring details, photosynthesis is the process of the plant using the suns rays to make food for itself. The rays from the sun are absorbed by the foliage and the food making process begins. In the case of a flower bulb this food is transported to the bulb beneath the ground and stored for later use. So basically the leaves of the plant are like little solar panels. Their job is to absorb the rays from the sun to begin the process known as photosynthesis. If we fold them over and handcuff them with their hands behind their back, they are not going to be able to do their job. Its like throwing a tarpaulin over 80% of a solar panel. In order for the leaves to absorb the rays from the sun, the surface of the foliage has to be exposed to the sun. On top of that, when you bend the foliage over, you are restricting the flow of nutrients to the bulb. The veins in the leaves and the stem are a lot like our blood vessels. If you restrict them the flow stops. You decide. Ive presented my case. Bending them over seems to work, but Ive spent a lot of money on my bulbs. I want them running at full speed. What I do is clip the blooms off once they are spent, and just leave the tops alone until they are yellow and wilted. If they are still not wilted when its time to plant my annual flowers, I just plant the annuals in between the bulbs. As the bulbs die back the annuals tend to grow and conceal them. If one shows through I clip it off. It seems to work well for me. Michael J. McGroarty is the author of this article. Demography and Population Analysis

By Sharon White Political scientists have been agreed that any catalog of the essential elements of the state must include population, territory, and sovereign power. Aside from elaborate metaphysical studies of the latter they have given little attention to a fundamental analysis of these basic elements in political life, though in this way alone is it possible to penetrate beyond the superficial externalities of political processes. The contributions of sociology to the description and analysis of the social population have been diverse and epoch-making, and must be differentiated even for brief summarization. First in volume, if not in ultimate importance, should be placed those indispensable studies of population conditions which are usually grouped under the branch of descriptive sociology known as demography. In modern times this work has been done mainly by public authorities and expert advisers in connection with the official census. It is concerned chiefly with the gathering of descriptive data which furnish the basis of such important information as relates to birth-rates and deathrates, age-classes, industrial groups, distribution of wealth, distribution of population between country and city, ethnic composition, vitality classes, etc., and, by comparison of data gathered at different periods, to the dynamic aspects of these problems indicated by changes in the population and its characteristics. It has been especially in this field of demography that there has developed one of the most important of the sociological techniques, namely, social statistics. Having actually originated with Bodin and with certain mathematicians and scientists of the seventeenth century, the science of statistics is nevertheless conventionally dated from the work of Adolphe Quetelet, a Belgian contemporary of Comte. While it has rather definite limitations in application to social problems, there can be no doubt that the statistical technique is the only one which can elevate sociology and political science to the level of quantitative sciences. Presentation Folders: Five Secrets to Creating Great Looking Folders that Get Opened

By Michael Joseph Presentation folders can be your best - or worst - marketing spend. Presentation folders that look great and get opened cannot be beat for creating a lasting impression and getting your message across. But unfortunately many presentation folders get tossed. Why? Because the folders look unprofessional, feel “cheap” in the hands or have no message that compels people to open them. Can you do better? Yes. You simply need to know a few secrets; some easy-to-use tricks of the trade. For starters, think of your presentation folders much like a direct mail piece or marketing e-mail. The mission with those marketing tools is simple: get the recipient to open up your message. Presentation folders take this a step further by being not only a carrier of information but a place to keep that information long-term. Here are five professionally proven secrets to keeping your presentation folders - and your message - out of the trash and in front of your audience. Secret #1: Use Lots of Color Including White Presentation folders with colored backgrounds are very popular. They don’t typically cost too much more and they can attract attention. Go for color if that’s what you like, but don’t forget about white. First secret? Full color backgrounds should be coated to prevent scuffing and to ensure colors don’t fade. Whatever you choose for a background, make the color work for you. How? Design pros call it “negative space.” Here are some tips for using color to your advantage: Leave lots of colored space around your logo Make your logo stand out and not look cluttered Use more colored space between lines of text Use color space that enhances your text and doesnt compete Use color and graphics that create a brand presence Secret #2: Take the “Droop” Test Hold a folder in your hand. Does it droop like an overdone noodle? That’s not the paper (stock) you want. Cheap folders make great trash can liners. Tell your printer you want 12pt coated stock. 12pt is the weight of the paper. 10pt is thinner and cheaper. Avoid it. The term “coated” means that the folder stock is slightly glossy. Gloss is good. Glossy makes colors look richer. How do you know what your printer will use? Be sure to get a sample of the stock before you order. If it doesn’t droop and it’s a bit glossy, it’s the right stock for you. Secret #3: Avoid Goofy Styles and Sizes Much like direct mail, presentation folders seem to come in a new sizes, shapes and styles every day. With the right design, you can avoid odd sizes and gimmicky shapes and get your message across. You’ll also keep your costs down. Here are standard presentation folder elements: Folded size is 9″ x 12″ The fold is right down the middle Two pockets on the inside Business card slits on at least one pocket Both pockets are printed - quality space to convey more of your message If you only need one pocket, you can utilize the space on the other side to put more information about your company or product line. Secret #4: Photo Quality Printing There have been incredible new advances in color printing. Don’t settle for what most printers call “digital” quality, look for true photo quality printing. With photo quality printing, presentation folders are printed with tiny dots of color. The smaller the dots and the closer they are together, the better the quality of your printed folder. Make sure to ask for samples that are 2400 dpi (dots per inch). Secret #5: Use Images and Copy that Say “Open Me” This is the most important secret. It’s the easiest, too. Add a catch phrase to your folders. Nothing tricky, just a few simple words like “open here,” “turn here” or “meant to be opened.” Or consider adding a simple arrow pointing to the right edge of your folder. It works. Follow these tips and you’ll be ready to create great looking presentation folders that get opened. What Kind Of Dating Partner Are You Searching For?

By CD Mohatta Do you know about what kind of dating partner are you looking for? Have you broadly specified the qualities that you are looking for in your dating partner? If not it is time you do that. Otherwise, you will never get satisfied with any dating partner. If you yourself do not know what you are looking for, how will you succeed? Unfortunately, when we look for to buy anything, we try to find out what we are looking for. But when it comes to a dating partner, many of us have no clue about what kind of person will satisfy them. Let us look at some qualities that may specify your partner. Physical - Are you looking for a great specimen? A smashing looker? Will you be happy, even if the other person is lacking in intelligence but has a great body? Or you need more intelligence and an Ok, body? Are you prepared to compromise on looks if your partner is otherwise good, or good looks are a must? Please think hard and decide. Emotional - What should be the emotional makeup of your partner? Will you be emotionally satisfied only if you find a caring partner? Or you need someone for who you will care? Should your partner have his/her emotions ruling over the head? Are you looking for a very compassionate person or someone very tough and emotionally strong? Someone who begins crying looking at a miserable scene or one who will say - this is what life is and walk away? Emotions rule every facet of our life. We must know our emotional make up and also know about the emotions we desire in our partner. Please prepare a long list of questions about emotions you desire your partner to have in plenty and try to find out before you proceed further. If your partner is short tempered and if you hate anger, you will never love him/her. Am I correct? Please define your priorities. Intellectual - Will anyone with normal intellect satisfy you, or you need someone who can write volumes on any given subject. What is your intellectual level and what kind of partner are you seeking in this area? Please decide very carefully about this. This quality is many times responsible for destroying relationships. Sometimes, people of average intellect manage to attract some one of very high intellect and then suffer from this complex all through their life. Goals - What are your values in life? What are your goals about money, children, family life and other areas? If your partner has different values and life goals, it will be destruction right from day one. If we know what we are looking for, we present ourselves as thinking individuals who know their minds to any dating partner. You will be respected for that and will surely attract the one you desire. Seven Strategic Tips For Selling Professional Services Brand

By Glenn Ebersole Selling professional services presents many challenges and problems with closing a deal with a prospect and/or client. The term closing has an inherent seller-orientation and it can be interpreted as putting your needs ahead of the clients needs. And that is never a desired interpretation for those who sell professional services. The closing model also presents some conflicts between the belief that buying is driven by rational decision-making, rather than emotion. What is important is to have the buyer of professional services feel comfortable about a rational decision they have to make. The emphasis is on creating a high comfort level for the buyer when making the decision. Here are three (3) tips from your strategic thinking business coach on how to avoid large problems associated with the traditional closing model. 1. Do not talk too much about yourself and your firm. 2. Do not talk too much about your product and/or service you are offering. 3. Do not push too hard or fast to move the buyer to action. Remember, you want the buyer to be comfortable with his or her decision. If you give him or her reason to: trust you; believe you understand his or her concerns; place their interests first and you are reliable, then they will hire you. Instead of the closing concept, which presumes a transactional, seller-centered, rational model of buying decisions, lets look at a model centered on trust in the seller. Here are four (4) tips from your strategic thinking business coach to achieve a trust-centered model for selling professional services. 1. Focus on the client relationship, not the transaction. 2. Focus on selling with an emphasis on competence to solving problems and bringing value, rather than an emphasis on qualifications. 3. Listen and hear what the client or prospect is saying to you. 4. Envision solutions with your client or prospect. Seven Strategic Tips For Selling Professional Services Brand By: J. Glenn Ebersole, Jr., Chief Executive of J. G.
